25,000 Classrooms, 1 MILLION+ LETTERS ACROSS AMERICA

The Challenge: Handwritten letters are being replaced by digital communication and kids are growing unfamiliar with how (or why!) to write and send a letter.

Our Solution: We proved the power of letter writing by fostering friendships across America. During the 21-22 school year, we created a Pen Pal Program that paired up 25,000 classrooms from different parts of the country. Students sent each other letters against various prompts throughout the year—helping them learn empathy and experience the joy of opening an envelope addressed just to them.

We got lots of local press from all over the map, literally

TEACHERS SIGNED UP ONLINE AND GOT MATCHED WITH A CLASS

ALL 25,000 CLASSrooms Were SENT A CUSTOM PRINT KIT

Each kit included a poster, lesson plan, activity sheets, 25 cards, 25 envelopes, and stickers to kick off the program.

Classroom Poster (Front)

The front of the poster taught the different parts of a letter and included interactive elements, where teachers or students could write in their own examples.

Classroom Poster (Back)

The back of the poster included The Pen Pal Project lesson plan and two custom activity sheets teachers could photocopy and pass out to their students.

Students’ First CARD TO their Pen Pal

We made students’ first pen pal exchange as exciting as possible—filling the front and back of the card with fun prompts and conversation starters. The inside was where they wrote their first letter.

IN-CLASSROOM VIDEO

This kid-facing video was a teaching tool for students to learn about the awesome journey their letters go on through the mail system.

Winning awards is cool… but having an entire class of second graders scream with excitement over a campaign you created is far cooler in my opinion :)

This North Carolina class is opening their first pen pal letters from California.

Check back soon for updates as the school year continues :)
